The Historic Flinn Block

The Historic Flinn Block is made up of two buildings on two tax lots at 210-222 First Avenue West in Downtown Albany, Oregon, between Ellsworth and Broadalbin Streets.

The Flinn Building, 222 First Avenue West, “is Albany’s grandest extant 19th century commercial structure, and has one of the finest cast iron facades in the northwest.” (National Register of Historic Places nomination form). It was built in the 1880s in the French Second Empire style. A member of the Albany Landmarks Advisory Committee said after touring the building that, “It’s even more significant than we thought.”

The Ames Building, 210 First Avenue West, was built in 1910 and housed a hardware store for decades. In the 1970s, the two buildings were joined at the ground levels and Albany’s first indoor shopping mall was created.

Our Vision

Revitalize the blighted Flinn and Ames buildings into the best-looking buildings in Downtown Albany, highlighting the architectural significance of the buildings, and thereby creating a viable anchor and attractor for the City that will bring additional people Downtown and serve as a catalyst to attract additional private investment throughout Albany including the Downtown and Riverfront areas.
